Drumroll…. MR.SAMFORD 2022!

Let’s give it up for another successful year of presenting Mr. Samford! This year, the sisterhood of Delta Psi was able to raise over $22,000 to donate to Breast Cancer Education and Awareness! Mr.Samford is an annual event that the Delta Psi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha puts on for the entire Samford University community. There is something very special and unique about this event as it incorporates all of Greek life. Each sorority and fraternity have a male representative to compete on their behalf. Before the men competed for the crown, the women of ZTA participated in Think Pink week where each day leading up to Mr. Samford, we had various events promoting fundraising for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Some events and activities included: Pie a contestant and trivia on Ben Brown, Steel City Pops, and Wild Honey flower truck. Proceeds fundraised from these fun events were directly donated to the ZTA Foundation to support scholarships, educational programming, leadership development and our fight against Breast Cancer, which includes our partnerships with Bright Pink, the NFL, and the American Cancer Society. It was such an amazing week leading up to one of the biggest Greek fundraisers of the year!

Mr. Samford would not have been possible if it was not for Olivia Sisk’s (Vice President IV of Philanthropy) and the philanthropy committee. Sophomore, Emma Screws, philanthropy committee member, expressed that “Our philanthropy committee had high hopes for this year’s Mr. Samford. Especially because the previous year, Mr. Samford was limited due to Covid-19 protocols. Last year we had 300 people attend Mr.Samford, while this year, we had double attendance with over 700 people in attendance. Our Philanthropy is an essential part of not only our sisterhood but also to all of those affected by Breast Cancer or who have loved ones who have a history of Breast Cancer. It is proven that breast cancer awareness significantly affects individuals’ knowledge of the symptoms and risk factors of breast cancer and their practice of breast self-examination. Not only did this event result in raising a large amount, but it also formed bonds that might not have been formed if it wasn’t for the Mr. Samford pageant. Every practice, meeting, and “think pink” event was more than worth it for the outcome from this year’s Mr.Samford.”

ZTA’s very own Think Pink Chairman, Mackenzie McCravy, shares her experience with Mr. Samford 2022. MacKenzie said that “It is such a fun and amusing experience and having the opportunity to lead and organize the event alongside Olivia was such an honor.  While the show is hilarious, the purpose behind it is to raise money for breast cancer education and awareness. This is a cause that affects so many people, both directly and indirectly, which is one of the reasons that I truly love Zeta’s philanthropy.”

Mackenzie said it best. The purpose of Mr. Samford is to support Breast Education and Awareness. This cause is personal and Breast cancer touches many lives. Oliva, Mackenzie, Emma, and the entire Delta Psi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha would like to extend our gratitude to the Samford University community, especially Samford Greek Life, the Wright Center Staff, and all of our contestants who dedicated their time and energy to something so much larger than ourselves.
